I dont think it will matter that much if you are burried to the balls, but its always better to stay in shape.

I want to also share my *recent* experience on this subject.
I got back into torso/core/ab workouts, and today when I measured, my EL was nearly 1/4" longer than ever before. When I did my bone-pressed though, it was still the same, right below 6". I do measure both, and am ultimately looking for EL results (what is visible), but for the reason you might add or lose some size to your fat pad, I suggest also measuring your bone-pressed for accurate record keeping of your gains.
